Ordination of Mike Meyers

Jason VanDorstenChildren's Ministry, Events, Media, NewsMarch 1, 2016 1 Comment0

mikemeyersOn Sunday, February 28, our church leadership was pleased to formally ordain Mike Meyers, our Children’s Ministry Director, to the pastorate. We thank the Lord for Mike’s faithful work here at our church and beyond, and we pray for Jesus’ blessing on Mike’s continued ministry. We are grateful to now have two Pastor Mikes on staff!

A LITTLE ABOUT MIKE: Michael John Meyers is a man who loves Jesus, loves his family and has a passion for helping young people find the Way that leads to life. In pursuit of that calling, Mike left the business world over a decade ago, where he was an operations manager of a Fortune 500 company. He eventually took on the role of Director of Children’s Ministries at Reston Bible Church in Reston, Virginia. In 2005, Mike and his wife Patricia founded Open Arms Brazil and in 2006 moved to Brazil where they ministered to at-risk children.  Mike and his family moved back from Brazil, and in 2013, Mike resumed his full-time position as Children’s Ministry Director at RBC. He is also the acting president of Open Arms Worldwide (OAW), an RBC-supported missions organization with the goal of mobilizing, preparing, equipping, and aiding Christians to implement transformational, faith-based outreach projects for children and youth among the world’s poor.

Mike speaks to adults, youth, and children in the United States and throughout Brazil on the church’s role in raising a generation that knows the Lord and has a Biblical worldview. Mike brings a passionate and entrepreneurial approach to children’s ministry, missions, the church and the urgent need for God’s people to stand in the gap for the next generation.

Mike frequently blogs here on the RBC site and at Last Man Standing Church. He has also written a book called Last Man Standing: Jesus & the Fight for a Generation.

Baptisms | 2.21.2016

Jason VanDorstenEvent Updates, Media, News, WorshipFebruary 25, 20160

Last Sunday, we were privileged to witness the baptisms of four individuals within our congregation. Here at RBC, we believe that baptism is a public declaration of faith and allegiance to Jesus Christ. Though baptism is not required for salvation, it is an outward expression of an inward spiritual reality – it’s a visible picture of what Jesus has done for those who place their faith in Him as Lord and Savior. Baptism illustrates for us His death & resurrection, the washing away of our sin, and the new life we have in Christ.

What an honor to rejoice with Bella, Corey, Jack and Karen as they proclaimed their allegiance to Jesus through baptism last Sunday! If you are interested in learning more about baptism or being baptized at RBC, click here.

RBC Annual Report 2015

Ed NalleEvent Updates, Media, News, ResourcesDecember 16, 20150

“I will remember the deeds of the LORD, I will ponder all Your work and meditate on your mighty deeds.” – Psalm 77:11-12

Our Annual Report is not a list of our accomplishments, but rather a recounting of some of the great things God has done in us, for us and through us over the past year.

The 2015 Annual Report is available in print format at the Welcome Desk in the church lobby, or you read through the online version here. You can also click here to download a PDF.

We hope you’ll take some time to read through it, remember the mighty deeds of our great God, and be moved to deeper gratitude and trust in our great Savior.

Introducing RBC Cares

Jason VanDorstenMedia, News, Resources, Service/VolunteerSeptember 21, 20150

The Deacons are launching a new initiative called “RBC Cares,” whose goal is to connect those who desire to share their gifts (material or services), with the needy in our congregation, who are under the care of the Deacons.

RBC Cares will assist the Deacons in meeting the needs of RBC families, while tapping into the talents of the congregation.

The first step is to create a central repository of donors, which enables the Deacons to match needs with gifts. To do this we need your help. First, we need to know who is willing to help (free of charge) and how you’re gifted.

Here are a few examples of ways to serve:

  • Opening your home to a displaced widow/family
  • Offering legal advice
  • Offering tax advice or financial guidance
  • Offering real estate advice
  • Assisting with job searches
  • Providing child care
  • Doing home repair
  • Giving rides to church

Here’s how it works:

  1. Let us know you’re willing to serve by registering at the link below (donors will be kept anonymous).
  2. Tell us how you would like to serve.
  3. If a need arises within your area of giftedness, we will communicate the need and if you’re willing and able, you can elect to serve. If not, we will keep you on the list for the next opportunity within your area. There’s no time commitment or obligation.
  4. You can serve as little or as much as you prefer, as needs arise within your area of giftedness.
Click here to sign up or request more information.  If you have questions, please email the Deacons at deacons@restonbible.org. Thank you for your consideration!

Now & Always – New Live Worship Album

Erik PalmerMedia, Resources, WorshipJuly 22, 2015 1 Comment0

NowAndAlways - promo

The process of recording this new live project was a great testimony of the Lord continuing to lead us in the leading of His people. God has done great things in our midst over this past year. He has used these eleven songs, in particular, to remind us of the unfailing grace and love He extends to us daily and the glory He is due with every word that escapes our lips.

In compiling the songs that ultimately were recorded for Now & Always, God was clearly weaving them together to unveil some amazing themes that would allow us to go into production with great confidence and joy. These songs have been such a blessing to sing together as a church – with most of them being introduced over the past twelve months. It’s such a privilege to look back and see how God has used His powerful Word paired with these powerful melodies and beautiful lyrics to provide a voice for our church to sing with such passionate faith.

The title, Now & Always, comes directly from one of my favorite lines from the fifth track, the hymn Be Thou My Vision – “Riches I heed not nor man’s empty praise / Thou mine inheritance, now and always.” It’s such a great reminder of the nature of our relationship with our Creator – that nothing we gain in this life can even begin to compare to the glorious inheritance of a life spent knowing Him and an eternity spent in His presence.

So many lyrics from this collection of songs point to the truth of this perfectly sustaining existence alongside Christ – both here on this earth (Now) and the promise of Heaven (Always):

Nothing shall be impossible / Your kingdom reigns unstoppable / We’ll shout your praise forevermore / Jesus, our God, unstoppable  (I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted. Job 42:2)

O my God, He will not delay / My refuge and strength always / I will not fear, His promise is true / My God will come through always, always  (The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2)

There’s no end to Your love, there’s no end to Your love / You’re with us, You’re with us / There’s nothing in this world that could take You away / You’re with us, You’re with us  (He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us. Psalm 46:10-11)

Our hope through the process of recording this album has always been to simply extend the time we have together on Sundays into the other 167 hours of your week. We hope that these familiar songs with these familiar voices and arrangements will be a blessing to you and provide more opportunities to praise God – either on your own or together with your families.

We are truly thankful for the opportunity to use God’s incredible gift of music to reach the hearts of His people. May our worship be full of passion. May it flow freely. And by all means, may it be louder than anything else in our lives. We hope you enjoy it.

Kids Camp 2015 Recap

Mike MeyersChildren's Ministry, Event Updates, MediaJuly 2, 20150

Jesus is calling us to move beyond the beach and into the waves, to a place of adventure, purpose, and true joy! “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – Jesus (John 10:10b)

Kids Camp 2015, “Surf’s Up,”  has come and gone.  This year’s camp was a huge success with roughly 400 children and volunteers in attendance over the five days.  The children of the church were challenged in their faith and their walk with Jesus, while many children from the surrounding community got to hear the gospel message presented through music, drama, and Bible teaching, perhaps for the first time.  We were blessed with the positive feedback that came in from parents and children alike.  Here is a little sampling:

“The kids were coming home from an afternoon summer camp and they practically ran to the car each day in order to not be late to RBC!”

“My heart leapt when my son, who never wants to lead prayer at home, asked if he could pray after coming home from Kids Camp.”

“Our son came home after the second day of camp and asked us to pray with him to receive Jesus’ gift of salvation and eternal life.”

To go along with our theme, “Surf’s Up,”  the children were encouraged to bring an offering toward Christian Surfers International (www.christiansurfers.com) and enthusiastically responded.  Those funds will be going toward a children’s outreach in Panama this summer through Christian Surfers.  These are the moments that make the long hours and hard work of volunteers and staff alike more than worth it.

We are so very thankful for all that God did in and through Kids Camp 2015, “Surf’s Up,” and are already looking forward to next summer!  We are also so thankful to the volunteers without whom Kids Camp would be quite impossible.  Thank you for answering the call to raise up a generation that knows Christ and makes Him known.
