The Purpose of Dedication
At RBC, dedicating your child allows you to proclaim publicly your desire to raise him or her for the glory of God. Dedications serve as a vessel for parents to express gratitude to God and to acknowledge their responsibility before Him in raising their children. Dedications are done during a weekend service and follow in the spirit of Hannah who offered her son Samuel completely for the Lord’s work (1 Samuel 1:27, 28). Any parent(s) who knows Jesus as Savior is welcome to dedicate their children (of any age) to the Lord. Feel free to invite as many friends, family, and shepherd group members as you like who will support you in your goals. Dedications are a time of great joy and are meant to involve those closest in our lives.
During the dedication service, you will be displaying your intent by answering these questions:
- Do you commit to knowing Christ, to seeking after Him in your own personal walks of faith?
- Do you commit to making Christ known in your home through discussions about His life and sacrificial death?
- Do you commit to raising your children in a home that is filled with God’s mercy and grace?
Following the charge, the congregation is asked to join with you, assisting and supporting you on your job as parents. In conclusion, a member of the staff will pray for the families dedicating their children to the Lord.
Requirement to take Parenting Principles 1 Course
Before scheduling your child’s dedication, parents are required to attend our Parenting Priciples 1 Course. The class introduces foundational principles outlined in the Bible for raising children and allows us the opportunity to get to know you a bit better, hear your story and your heart behind dedicating your child to the Lord, and begin to offer our ministry support to you as parents.
