Memorial Service for Charlotte Evans

Jason VanDorstenUncategorizedJuly 30, 20260

Charlotte Elizabeth Evans | 2015-2026

Charlotte Elizabeth Evans of Falls Church, Virginia, passed away July 26, 2026 after a hard-fought battle with Osteosarcoma. She attended Grace Christian Academy in Annandale, where she was a rising sixth grader. Charlotte loved math and art classes and was devoted to her Christian faith. Outside of school, Charlotte enjoyed building lego, miniature houses, and many clay art projects with her Gigi. She was a huge fan of anything around the water — joining her summer swim team at the age of six and becoming a key member of the undefeated 2025 Division 5 champions. She loved the sand and surf — relishing family vacations to the beach with her cousins, and dreaming of a day when she could get her scuba license and visit the Great Barrier Reef.

While she did not get that wish, she did get to swim with dolphins, put her toes in the Pacific Ocean, and meet numerous sea creatures. She also never met a dog or a horse that didn’t love her. She formed a special relationship with a retired pony, named Kane. On her grandparent’s Appomattox farm, she enjoyed feeding baby lambs, energetically hunting for chicken eggs and giving lots of pets to the farm dogs.

Charlotte was a gifted builder, graduating quickly from small lego to large Harry Potter castles, and eventually designing her own treehouse at Lake Anna with an architect and custom home building crew.

Despite being diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 8, Charlotte never believed that she couldn’t conquer this hideous disease. She persevered through a knee and femur replacement, broken ankle, massive bleeding events, a collapsed lung, nauseating chemo, and lengthy hospital stays that left her with “jelly legs.” Each time, Charlotte rebuilt her body with physical therapy and was even back swimming in the pool this Spring after the cancer took over most of her right lung and paralyzed her left arm.

Charlotte’s fight was strong until the end. Just two Fridays before her death, she asked her family to keep fighting. She was able to get one more experimental radiation paired with a specially-approved medication. A separate hospital board was about to meet to make her the first child in the world to get a new drug.

Charlotte never gave up. She was still taking her medication at 9pm on Saturday and directing her nurse and uncle in ways to make her more comfortable at 11:45 pm Saturday night. “Uncle David, please move that pillow.” But what she saw on the morning of July 26th, 2026, she couldn’t turn down: the biggest swimming pool, the most beautiful coral and dolphins, and her loving Heavenly Father welcoming her home, telling her, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Well done.” In God’s mercy, she didn’t suffer. She slipped from her earthly father’s arms – to the arms of Jesus at 12:15am. She’s healed! She’s whole!

Her life verse: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

She did. And now, we will. She leaves behind an 8-year-old sister, Jourdan, her parents, Daniel and Jessica (Stone) Evans, her grandparents, Richard and Wendy Weinstein, her grandparents, Jack and Pam Evans, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She also leaves behind a community – built over dozens of churches, hundreds of supporters, and a group of friends who have become like family to her own.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Charlotte Evans Legacy Fund which supports her favorite causes and provides support for osteosarcoma research and the type of support we wish we had when we were a newly-diagnosed families fighting this disease.

We will be holding Charlotte’s series of remembrances and celebrations as follows:
