Portraits of Christ: The Son of God
What we confess to be true is what we will proclaim to others. The most excellent proclamation we can make is that Jesus is the Son of God. It is His Sonship that forms the canvas upon which we would paint any other portrait of Jesus.

- Take some time to read through John 1. How does John link “the Word” to Jesus? What else do you observe about Jesus from the text?
- Why is it important to know Jesus as the Son of God? What are the implications of His Sonship for us? In what ways is Jesus’ status as Son of God “the canvas upon which other portraits of Him are painted”?
- How can something be “a truth known, but unlived”? What examples can you think of? How can Jesus be “a truth known, but unlived” in our lives?
- Discuss the phrase, “We proclaim what we confess.” What examples of this can you think of?
- Read and discuss Matthew 16:13-16. What do you observe in this passage? Why might “Who do others say Jesus is?” the easier question to answer?
- Who do you say Jesus is? What does this mean for you? What does it look like in your daily life?
