The Attributes of God: Justice and Mercy
The beautiful news of our God is not just that He does justice, but that He loves mercy. God is more eager to show us mercy than we are to show remorse.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SHEPHERD GROUPS
- Before we discuss the content of the sermon, what stood out to you from the actual story of Naboth and the vineyard in 1 Kings 21?
- As you look at your life and the world around you, where do you see examples of justice applied at the expense of mercy, and mercy applied at the expense of justice?
- What does it mean that justice and mercy are not merely actions that God performs or adjectives describing God’s character, but attributes of God?
- What does it mean (and what does it not mean) that God is wrathful toward evil? Describe the argument that Pastor David made that we should want a God who is wrathful towards evil. Do you agree or disagree, and why?
- How does the cross fully display both God’s justice and mercy?
