If we misunderstand God’s sovereignty, it is because we do not have His character, His mercy, His power, or His imagination. An all-powerful and all-good God is not narrow-minded or shortsighted. His ways are unsearchable!

- What stood out to you from either the passage or sermon on Romans 9?
- How should Paul’s willingness to be “accursed” for his kinsmen (v. 3) shape our attitudes and actions toward unbelieving family and friends?
- How do you respond to the idea that God chooses people for His purposes? What questions or tensions does that raise for you?
- Reread verses 11-13. What are the main differences between the Calvinist and Arminian interpretations? How does each understand “God’s purpose of election,” and which do you find more convincing from the text? Why?
- How do verses 19-24 remind us of the dangers of demanding full understanding of God’s ways before trusting Him?
- Reread verses 30-33. Why do some attain righteousness while others do not? What does this teach us about the relationship between God’s sovereignty and human faith?
