The RBC Youth Ministry strives to provide opportunities for our students to put their faith into practice by serving on mission teams during their summer break. We are pursuing the following three mission options for 2012. The description for each team is designed to allow you to prayerfully consider how God may be leading. All dates and details are subject to change but will be confirmed by the team leader well in advance of the team’s departure. All applicants for overseas trips are encouraged to begin to pursue their passport now due to the length of time involved in obtaining them. All teams will be required to be involved in the Spring Clean Project (April 21) which is designed to help them offset the cost of the trip for each one going.

Grow - SEMP (Chicago)

  • DATES: June 24 to June 30, 2012 and July 5-6, 2012
  • MISSION: SEMP stands for Students Equipped to Minister to their Peers. SEMP is a one-week conference in Chicago designed to train teens to share their faith with their friends and to grow in their walk with Christ. The mornings are filled with training on how to share your faith with others. In the afternoons, the team will go out into the Chicago area talking with them about what they believe and sharing the gospel with them as God leads. They then return for an evening meeting with awesome worship and teaching followed by a team time. The team will return home and complete their mission by hosting the Freshman Camp Out on July 5-6. They will have a great opportunity to encourage and pass on what they have learned to our rising freshmen.
  • REQUIREMENTS: Those applying for the SEMP Team must know Christ as their savior and be in a growing walk with Him. They need to desire and be willing to learn how to clearly share and defend their faith one on one and in initiative environments. They need to be able to work well with others and under the direction of the team’s leadership.

  • HOST MINISTRY: SEMP is run by Sonlife Classic Ministries, which has been a ministry that the RBC youth ministry has teamed up with over the past 20 years. The training, lodging, and meals will be on the Moody Bible Institute campus in downtown Chicago.
  • COST: We are currently estimating the cost of the trip to be $800.
  • OTHER DETAILS: This trip is open to students who will be freshmen in the fall of 2012 through graduating seniors. The team will be limited to about 15 students and 5 staff.

Serve - Brazil

  • DATES: June 17 to June 30, 2012
  • MISSION: To work with children and the families who live at a landfill outside the city of Benevides, Brazil. The group will build on the ministry of the teams that have visited the past five years who have seen many of the children come to faith in Christ, grow in their walk, and now serve with the team. This year the team will be building a basic home for one of the families in that community and be performing various community outreach activities.
  • REQUIREMENTS: Those applying for the Brazil team must know Christ as their savior, have a desire to care for and minister to children, be adaptable and flexible in handling new, different, and sometimes uncomfortable surroundings, and be able to work under the direction of the team’s leadership.

  • HOST MINISTRY: The Brazil team will be working with Lynne McLeavy & Bete Negrão, who are both RBC supported missionaries ministering in Brazil. During our stay, the team will be staying at the Word of Life College, which is only a short distance from where the children live.
  • COST: We are currently estimating the cost of the trip to be about $1800- $2000.
  • OTHER DETAILS: This team is open to teens who are currently freshmen through graduating seniors. The team will be smaller this year than in previous years, and limited to 5-10 senior high teens.

Share - Croatia

  • DATES: June 22 to July 7, 2012
  • MISSION: The focus of this trip will be developing relationships with teens in Nova Gradiska and Slavonski Brod, Croatia, with the desire to share the truth of the Gospel through these friendships. We will be working with Garret Prestwood, an RBC supported missionary and part of the Pedroni’s former team, in running a baseball camp, children’s Bible clubs, public concerts, and other events to hang out with Croatian teens. We will be building on the contacts we made from our last trip to Croatia in 2010 , especially the baseball club that formed from our last camp. This is an excellent trip for students who want to stretch their faith through evangelism.
  • REQUIREMENTS: Those applying for the Croatia Team must know Christ as their savior and be in a growing walk with Him. They need to desire and be willing to learn how to clearly share and defend their faith one on one and be relationally mature enough to open and carry conversations with others. They will need to be able to respond to new and uncomfortable surroundings, and be able to work under the direction of the team’s leadership.
