Read Scripture 2020 is a churchwide calling to read through the Bible over the next year together as a body.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105

Read Scripture is a daily Bible reading plan put together by The Bible Project that takes you through the entire bible in one year. The scriptures are divided up into sixteen “chapters” and organized in semi-chronological order. You’ll read two or three chapters a day, and sometimes skim through larger portions that contain genealogies, census information, etc.

The daily readings are paired with a Psalm and sometimes a video that gives an overview of a particular book or theme. By the end of the year, our body will have read though the entire Bible and prayed through the book of Psalms twice. In the video above, Pastor Mike introduces the Read Scripture plan and explains the value of engaging in the Word together as a church body. This video below from The Bible Project gives a brief overview of the Read Scripture reading plan.

We know life is busy, and the Read Scripture 2020 initiative is not meant to be a “new law” to make you should feel guilty or burdened if you’re not able to participate. If you are not currently engaged in the Word of God, this is a great time to start. If you are already regularly engaged in the Word, the Read Scripture plan is a great supplement. Either way, Read Scripture 2020 is an opportunity to draw near to Jesus through His Word while building unity and camaraderie in our church body through a common experience. Many of us may lose pace in the readings at some point in the year. No problem. Catch up if you can, but just jump back in on the current day’s reading. Those who are new and begin attending at various points of the year can simply jump in wherever we are at that time.

Wherever you happen to land with your Bible reading, we hope you join the RBC family in reading through the Bible in a year, starting January 1, 2020.

There are several ways to engage with the Read Scripture plan, depending on your preference. To get started with Read Scripture 2020, check out the video above and links below.

OPTION 1: GET THE APP

The Bible Project has put together an excellent and easy-to-use app that walks you through the daily readings and includes links to the supplemental videos. In the app settings, we recommend enabling reminder notifications, selecting the “read every day” option, and January 1, 2020 as your start date. You can click here to learn more about the app, search for “Read Scripture” wherever you get apps, or use the following links. APPLE APP STORE | GOOGLE PLAY

OPTION 2: PRINT THE PLAN

If you’re more into pen and paper, click here to download a print version of the plan. You may also request one at the Welcome Desk in the lobby. The print version lists the daily readings as well as the titles of the supplemental videos, which you can find on The Bible Project website. OLD TESTAMENT VIDEOS | NEW TESTAMENT VIDEOS

OPTION 3: READ ON YOUVERSION

If you’re a YouVersion Bible app user, simply go to to “Plans” and search “The Bible Project.” In the search results, find the plan titled “The Bible Project | The Bible” (365 Days) and read along from there starting January 1. The Read Scripture plan is also available here on their website. (You’ll need to sign up for a free account if you don’t have one already.)

OPTION 4: LISTEN VIA AUDIO

If you are a commuter or would prefer to listen through the Bible, there are several listening plans similar to Read Scripture.

  • The YouVersion Bible app and Bible.com website referenced above both include an audio reading option with each day’s reading. On either platform, look for the speaker button displayed at the top of the Read screen.
  • Biblegateway.com offers an audio option on most of its online Bible versions (look for the speaker button displayed near the top right of the chapter.) They also offer a subscription-based audio Bible app.
  • Oneyearbiblepodcast.com offers free daily audio readings following the ESV One Year Bible.
  • Websites like Amazon.com and Christianaudio.com have audio Bibles available for purchase in digital and physical media formats. Search “one year chronological audio Bible.”
