Psalms: Getting to Know the Ways of God, Part 10 (Psalm 40)
God’s gracious blessing should lead to our worshipful witness.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SMALL GROUPS
- What was something that was particularly encouraging or challenging for you in this message?
- Can you think of any other “ordinary” people whom God has used to do extraordinary things for His kingdom? What examples come to mind in Scripture?
- Where were you at in life when God saved you? Have you ever felt caught in a “slimy pit,” either before or after you came to Christ? How did God pull you out? (Or do you feel lik you’re in the pit right now?)
- Do you find it easy to get excited about what God is doing in your life or other people’s? Do you tend to be overwhelmed with worship as you see God work, or do you get distracted by things that are “worth less”?
- Read 1 Peter 3:8-22. Based on this passage, what should our worshipful witness look like? How would it change our lives–and the lives of those around us–if we followed the direction given by the Spirit through Peter here?
- What small gifts have you given to God that you’ve seen Him multiply?
- Pastor Meyers mentioned five ways to have a worshipful witness: 1) Publicly identifying ourselves with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (through baptism, in particular); 2) Caring for other members of the Body of Christ; 3) Showing love to those in the world; 4) Worshiping in the midst of trials; and 5) Telling others about what God has done for us. Which of these seem to come easy to you? Which do you struggle with? Spend some time with the group praying that God would help you grow in any areas of weakness.
