Killing Sin
Can Christians still sin? Though sin no longer separates the believer from God in the ultimate sense, it is still a force very much active within us. When left unchecked, sin will kill the joy not only in our human relationships, but in our relationship with God. Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you.
Watch / ListenGrand Theft Joy
We make decisions every day to either protect our joy or to allow the joy that God intends for us to be taken away. We allow our joy to be stolen by “Joy Thieves” when we don’t protect the joy God has given us through Jesus. There is one Joy Thief that is particularly relevant to us in Northern Virginia – busyness. If we aren’t careful, busyness steals joyfulness by keeping us from spending time with Jesus – the only source of true joy.

During favorable circumstances, we often say “Life just doesn’t get any better than this!” – but perhaps life will only be better when we realize that life will never really be better “when”? Yet, the Bible does tell us that we should love life and see good days. There is an ultimate “when” for believers in Christ.
Watch / ListenLife Will Be Better When… Part 2
The future “whens” of life are a temporary fix to an eternal problem – as soon as one “when” is realized, another pops up to take its place. If we do not keep future “whens” in check, they will become idols and keep us from present joy in the Lord.
Watch / ListenLife Will Be Better When… Part 1
Most of us live with the mentality of “life will be better when…” and constantly look ahead to the next big thing that will surely bring happiness. This is a pattern that can be traced from birth to death, yet we never find the satisfaction we crave. Instead, we are often crushed by the weight of expectation of the future “whens”. We must never let our expectations of the future keep us from being good stewards of the present.
Watch / ListenThe Enemy Within
Because of our fallen nature, humans are capable of committing any sin at any time, given the right circumstances. Great men in Scripture wrote very bad final chapters of their lives due to lack of discnerment in this area. Discernment dictates the decisions which dictate our future.
Watch / ListenIn the Name of Jesus
It is all too common for Christians to be seen as hypocritical, self-righteous, judgmental and hateful – and unfortunately, many people who hold those views have good reason for them. Christianity is often just as misrepresented by Christians as it is by secular society. How do we bridge the gap between Christians and Christianity?
Watch / ListenMoses: A Reluctant Leader, Part 7
In this final teaching in the Moses series, Pastor Mike compares and contrasts the life of Moses with the life of the rich young ruler from Jesus’ parable in Luke 10. Moses abandoned earthly investments for eternal ones – which do you invest in?
Watch / ListenMoses: A Reluctant Leader, Part 6
Pastor Mike takes a look at the anatomy of deception as we continue our study on the life of Moses. We lie because, deep down, we believe the benefits of lying outweigh the consequences of telling the truth. Lies cover idols, and we must be ruthless in weeding them out of our hearts and mouths.

When looking at Scripture, we must discern if what we are reading is descriptive (specific to a single situation or individual) or prescriptive (normative for all people). We often forget that God is not obligated to do everything He is able to do – He is only obilgated to do what He has promised to do.
