Taking God Seriously, Part 3
Obedience is a key part of the Christian life, and God enables us in whatever He has called us to. It is not our purpose as Christ-followers to pass moral judgement on the world and society at-large. Rather, we are to uphold the testimony of the Gospel by holding fellow Christians accountable to obedience to the Word of God.
Watch / ListenTaking God Seriously, Part 2
Jonah needed some dramatic encounters with God’s all-knowing, all-powerful presence to take Him seriously – including being swallowed alive by a great fish. Such divine discipline is painful, but God can use it to bring us closer to Him and to prepare us for greater ministry.
Watch / ListenTaking God Seriously, Part 1
The story of Jonah is about a man who knows God and has sound theology, but does not take Him seriously. In this way, the story of Jonah is really the story of our lives. We are more fearful of those who might find out about the hidden aspects of our lives rather than the One who already knows. All sin can be traced back to not taking God seriously.
Watch / ListenResist the Devil and He Will Flee (Text Only)
ListenThe Consequence of Consequences, Part 2
We often depend solely on our five human senses to try and determine the consequences of any given situation. Anticipating consequences we do not desire then leads to manipulation and greater consequences.
Watch / ListenThe Consequence of Consequences, Part 1
Pastor Minter walks through the story of David’s adultery with Bathsheba to demonstate how the consequences of our sin affect others.
Watch / ListenGive & Take: The Power of Encouragement, Part 4
The greatest encouragement we can give someone is to love them, but the apostle Paul gives us an impossible standard for love in 1 Corinthians 13. Biblical love is always at odds with the self-centered elements our fallen nature like envy, jealousy and pride. To love someone in the truest sense is impossible apart from Christ.
Watch / ListenHandle with Care
Being rebuked or corrected is rarely a comfortable or fun experience, but rebuke always requires a response from us. How we respond to rebuke will reveal our level of repentance on the matter, so we must handle rebuke with care.
Watch / ListenKilling Sin
Can Christians still sin? Though sin no longer separates the believer from God in the ultimate sense, it is still a force very much active within us. When left unchecked, sin will kill the joy not only in our human relationships, but in our relationship with God. Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you.
Watch / ListenThe Enemy Within
Because of our fallen nature, humans are capable of committing any sin at any time, given the right circumstances. Great men in Scripture wrote very bad final chapters of their lives due to lack of discnerment in this area. Discernment dictates the decisions which dictate our future.
Watch / ListenBaggage: Carried On for a Reason
Whether from bad choices we’ve made or from circumstances beyond our control, we all have baggage. While our tendency is to want to “check those bags” and move on, Christ has a greater purpose for the pain in our lives. How might He use the baggage in your life for kingdom purposes?
Watch / ListenThe Great Exchange
Goodness has never been God’s standard for right standing before Him. Only when clothed in Jesus’ perfection are we brought from darkness to light, from sin to righteousness. Pastor Paul Goodnight teaches from 2 Corinthians 5 on the great exchange Christ has procured for us.
Watch / ListenAddiction, Part 3: Cause, Consequence, Cure
In the last part of our Addiction series, Pastor Mike teaches through Psalm 115 and looks at the cause, consequences, and cure for addictive behavior. Addiction is a matter of worship, and you become like what you worship. What hope is there for the addicted?
Watch / ListenAddiction, Part 2: Addictive Behaviors
Human beings have a built-in bent toward addictive behavior. Pastor Mike takes look at two men in Scripture – Esau and Haman – and the destructive power of addictive behavior in their lives. Whether we need instant gratification, recognition or other addictive behaviors, these things are only symptoms of a deeper idolatry. Our idols dictate behavior and drive addictions.
