Teaching by Book: Ecclesiastes
Until All Are Free
Prosperity blinds us to a world of injustice.
Watch / ListenUnder the Sun, Part 5: Commencement
Think your generation will be the one to change the world? Think again. In the final part of our series on Ecclesiates, “Koheleth” – who has gained complete worldly wisdom, accumulated masses of wealth and experienced more sensual pleasures than any other man – gives a modern-day commencement address. This unique perspective from “The Teacher” shows the futility of life under the sun and reinforces the need to live “above the sun” in Christ Jesus.
Watch / ListenUnder the Sun, Part 4
As we continue through the book of Ecclesiastes, we see that the alternative to life under the sun is kingdom living – living in/from/for/through the kingdom of God. Living a “kingdom life” is possible only by grace, not by grit – it is a spiritual endeavor, not one of the flesh and is only possible through Jesus Christ.
Watch / ListenUnder the Sun, Part 3
As we continue to see the contradictory nature of Ecclesiastes and life “under the sun,” we see that riches are also a vain chasing after the wind. The desire to have something is always greater than the satisfaction of actually having it. Our insatiable desire to be satisfied is constantly thwarted by our inability to be satisfied.
Watch / ListenUnder the Sun, Part 2
Pastor Mike continues our series called “Under the Sun” from Ecclesiastes 3, where we see that time passes and there is nothing we can do about it. Life sometimes seems so boring and monotonous, yet God has “put eternity into man’s heart” and makes everything “beautiful in its time…” How do we practically live in light of God’s greater purposes?
Watch / ListenUnder the Sun, Part 1
There is a sense in that the book of Ecclesiastes deviates from the accepted norm of Scripture by saying life is “meaningless,” wisdom is “vain” and that all things under the sun are “wearisome.” Is there a greater context for these hard statements?
Watch / ListenIt’s Not That Difficult, Part 2
As we make decisions in life, we are often driven by selfish motives and focus often on the immediate outcome, without considering the long-term outcome. Little compromises along the way wear down the resolve of conviction. Payday, someday.
