Ed was born in Detroit and grew up in west Michigan, where he attended Sunday School and church with his family. However, it was not until his freshman year in college that he understood the Gospel and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
While attending Cornell University he attended a solid Bible church and served in a campus group ministry, both of which helped him to grow in his knowledge of Scripture and faith in Christ. Based on his newfound desire to serve, Ed made the decision to pursue a career in medicine, which took him to UCLA for medical school and residency training.
During medical school, Ed came to the D.C. area for a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. It was at this time that he met his wife, Jea. After Ed and Jea were married, they returned to Los Angeles to complete Ed’s medical training. During the 10 years they lived there, Ed led a shepherd group for several years and served as a lay elder in their church.
While living in Los Angeles, Ed and Jea were blessed with three wonderful children—Emma, Ethan, and Audrey. Since Jea grew up in Fairfax, the Lees decided to move back to the Northern Virginia to raise their children. Ed started his career as an ear, nose, and throat surgeon, and in 2007, he started his own practice in Reston. Jea helps with Ed’s practice and also works as a substitute teacher.
The Lees began attending Reston Bible Church in 2004. Over the years, Ed has served in the Shepherd Group ministry, Children’s Ministry, First Fruits, and on the Host Team as an usher and a communion server. Ed and Jea have also been active supporters of several missionaries, and Ed has volunteered his time on short-term mission trips annually to Brazil and/or Bolivia over the past 10 years. In his free time, Ed enjoys reading, playing golf and tennis, traveling with his family, and watching local sports.
