SUMMARY:Brazil Building Trip
DESCRIPTION:We are taking a team to Benevides\, Brazil to assist RBC supported missionaries Holly and Marcelo Vieira.\nWe will be building a house in the community for a needy family and we will also build a covered pavilion on the church property to be used for vocational training and events. The dates for the trip are July 18 – August 2. \nWho we’ll be serving: Sr. Francisco and Dona Maria faithfully care for their family and trust God despite overwhelming challenge and hardships. After years of health struggles and unstable work\, Sr. Francisco’s home has become unsafe due to severe termite and water damage. This summer\, a team from Reston Bible Church will partner with Igreja Bíblica Espaço Emanuel in Benevides\, Brazil\, to help build a safe\, new home for this dear family. \nWho we’ll be serving with: Holly and Marcelo Vieira are church-planters working in a very impoverished community in northern Brazil. For many years RBC has supported them by sending teams to build homes for people who are living in unstable\, unsafe situations. There has been beautiful growth and change as people learn to live in community and care for one another. You can watch a video about Holly & Marcelo’s work here and see a previous building trip here. \nHow you can pray for us: Please be in prayer for our team as we prepare our hearts and bodies to go and serve! The days are generally very hot and full—pray for strength\, stamina and that the Lord would protect us from illness and injury. Pray for the family we will be serving\, that they will see and experience the love of Christ through us and through the provision of a new home. Pray that our service would be a gospel witness that shows other families in the community the tangible love of Jesus. His combination of humor\, knowledge of God’s Word\, and humble spirit make him one of the most gifted and requested youth speakers. \nWe are excited to have him join us once again. We believe our students will be richly blessed and challenged by Paul. \nOur Location: Appalachian Bible College\nWe’re headed back to Mt Hope\, West Virginia\, to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation in the heart of the Appalachians. The activity options near campus are excellent: paintball\, caving\, white-water rafting and more! But what keeps us coming back year after year is the character and heart of the college staff there. \nCamp Activities\nDuring the week\, we have several group games and activities planned\, plus free time where students can play Frisbee\, soccer\, basketball\, fly off of the “blob\,” zip line over the lake\, or challenge themselves on the climbing tower.  All students also get to spend a day at the lake tubing\, playing in the water\, and hanging out on the beach with friends. Finally\, all students will have the opportunity to spend one day doing an activity of their choice. When you register online\, you will rank your preference of which activity you would like to do. \nACTIVITY OPTIONS \n\nWhitewater Rafting: Raft through the “Grand Canyon of the East” on the New River as you ride the rapids with your friends.\nPaintball: Face off against your friends in a friendly yet competitive game of paintball in a rugged woodland course.\nCaving: Explore God’s underground creation with a helmet and headlamp leading the way.\nHigh Ropes: Test your faith as you rise to a higher level! Since there are no neat\, orderly stages of grief\, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief\, in all its unpredictability—and gain solid support each step of the way \nThe next session meets September 13 to December 13. We will not meet November 29.  We will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Sundays in Room 236 (upstairs in the main building). The classes are not consecutive\, so you can jump in on any class and then make up the ones you’ve missed either online or in the next session. You do not need to be an RBC attendee to attend GriefShare\, and there is a $20 cost for materials. A graduate of Central Washington University\, Rod was a 4-year letterman and starter on the football team\, and earned Academic All-American honors during his senior year. He also earned his CPA license while working for Ernst and Whinney\, prior to joining FCA. He is an ordained minister. Rod is also the co-founder of TGIW (“Teaching Guys Infinite Wisdom”) a ministry which began in Lee’s Summit\, MO in September 2001. Today\, TGIW groups are meeting all over the world. \nRod has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) until his departure in May 2000. Rod began working for FCA in 1986\, initially serving in Seattle as the Assistant State Director for Washington. He moved to Kansas City in 1989 to work at the FCA National Headquarters. \nRod has published over 30 books including\, Character Counts-Who’s Counting Yours? which details how to begin the process of being accountable to one another. The book is a practical tool for helping people who desire to be people of character and integrity. \nRod and his wife\, Janna\, have been married 33 years and they live in Lee’s Summit\, MO.
