RBC began an effort in the late 1990’s to relocate based on a combination of desire to expand the ministry and limitations and constraints on our facility located on North Shore Drive (and leased spaces in the area). We began with an extensive search for land that took nearly five years. In 2002 we located 26 acres on Cascades Parkway in the Dulles/Sterling area and purchased the property. In 2003, we began a campaign, calling it Focus on Eternity (FOE), to raise the funds needed to pay for the property and build a new facility. The amount of money raised was enough to pay the majority of the debt on the property but was not sufficient to build a new facility. Since then we have been waiting for circumstances and timing to be appropriate to move forward with the relocation. FAQs about Relocation.
Relocation Timeline
Jul 2007 - Focus on Eternity, our initial relocation campaign, ended and a new effort began - the RBC Vision Campaign.
Aug 2007 - Focus group meetings were held with individuals and families of varying demographics within our congregation. The elders sought to gain perspective and input on the vision we believe God has given us and how the relocation of our church will help us fulfill that vision.
Sept 2007 - Pastor Mike begins teaching through a new mission statement for RBC. The mission statement is new, but old - It looks forward but also reaches back. It is new wording to describe the mission Reston Bible Church started out with in 1974 and it still describes what we believe God has called us to do for many years to come.
Nov 2007 - In November, RBC hosted four churchwide gatherings regarding our plans for relocation. If you were unable to attend one of these worshipful gatherings or attended and would like a refresher, the video and audio is available to you. Watch | Listen | Download Mp3
Dec 2007 - The weekend services of Dec. 8 & 9, 2007 incorporated a review of the Vision Campaign and invited the RBC congregation to make prayerful financial commitments to support the church's relocation efforts. Video and audio of that services is available here: Watch | Listen | Download Mp3
Jan 2008 - Pledges were taken from the body and reviewed by the elder board.
Feb 2008 - On February 2 & 3, it was announced that the RBC Elder Board voted unanimously to relocate the church with the goal of occupying a new building by late 2010. This communication outlines the generous financial response of those who gave, challenges those who did not give to consider their role in the body of RBC, and praises God for His grace in enabling us to move forward with relocating our church. Aug 2008 - A churchwide update was given regarding the progress of the RBC relocation project. We praise God that the generous giving of our congregation is ahead of schedule. Since our last update in February, we have hired an owner's representative, architects, and a company to do site/grading plans. We are commissioning a county-required traffic study and are working to finalize architectural designs. We are also pursuing tax exemption on the land before we build. This update also shares several specific prayer requests as we continue to move forward. Watch | Listen | Download Mp3 | Download PDF
Sep 2009 - The debt on the new land is officially paid off.
Mar 2009 - Executive Pastor Ed Nalle gave an update praising God for His grace in the Vision Campaign. Giving is ahead of schedule, with $1.85m given to date. The building designs for the new Main Campus and Youth Ministry buildings are nearly complete.
