THE VISION

Reston Bible Church exists “to know Christ and to make him known through biblical preaching and teaching, and authentic Christian community in Northern Virginia and around the world.”

There are wonderful joy-producing ministries that we believe God would have us do. Our hope is to start these ministries now and grow them as we prepare to move to the new campus in 2010. If God were to bless us financially over the next few years, the following is a list of the things we would love to do:

•    Hire one new pastor every year for 5 years. We need more pastors to care for our church and to equip the saints for the work of ministry. Pastoral positions being considered are for Counseling, College and Career, Adult Instruction, Evangelism Outreach, and Ministry to the Poor.
•    Add 50 new missionaries over the next 5 years supported at a significant level to extend the preaching of God’s word to other parts of the world.
•    Completely pay for the buildings at the new campus within 5 years.
•    Build and staff a computer lab for our ESL students so that we can teach job related skills in addition to English.
•    Build and staff a significant ministry for the poor in our area.
•    Build a soccer field and a gymnasium for church life and outreach to the community.

These are just some of the things we could do together if we moved away from passive spontaneous giving and moved toward generous, active, and intentional generosity.

How can we possibly do all these things? Through a simple but powerful idea called Faith Plus One.

Using readily available information, we estimate that the collective income of those individuals and families who regularly attend RBC is approximately $105 million. That means that each single percentage point of our collective income equals approximately $1 million.

As a group, we are giving about 4% of our income to the general fund here at RBC. Our leadership would like for us to grow in generosity toward God in the coming years.
 

THE PLEDGE

Our Faith Plus One pledge card reads this way, “I want to grow in the grace of giving. By faith and relying on God’s provision, I will give __% more of my income next year. Here’s how it works.

If all of us gave just 1% more of our income to God’s work at RBC than we did last year, that is, if people who currently give 2% gave 3%, or those who give 5% gave 6% and so forth, RBC’s funds for ministry would increase

Since each percentage point of our collective income equals just over $1 million, income to the general fund would rise by that amount in just one year.

If we grew in the grace of giving in this way for 5 years – so that those at 0% grew into 5% and those at 5% grew to 10% and so forth – it would produce $15 million in excess of what we currently invest in ministry over that 5 year span.

Please pray about joining with us as we seek to excel in this grace of giving so that many may know Christ and make Him known. If you would make that pledge with us, then let us know about it by turning in your card by the end of the year so we can plan effectively and begin to move ahead with our plans to better care for our flock and better reach Northern Virginia and the world.
